Stephen Abbott
Manager, Rocky Mountain Institute

Stephen Abbott is a manager within the Carbon-Free Cities and States program at Rocky Mountain Institute, a nonprofit based in Colorado. Since joining RMI in 2013, Stephen has focused on helping large organizations purchase renewable energy. After working with a number of large universities, Stephen helped launch the Business Renewables Center (now the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance), a member-based platform that streamlined and accelerated corporate purchasing of off-site, large-scale wind and solar energy.

In 2018, Stephen transitioned to a new project focused on helping U.S. cities purchase renewable energy, where he now leads the team’s efforts to develop guidance and tools for local governments. More generally, he is passionate about advancing business models that enable all parties to benefit from distributed resources, large-scale renewables, and energy efficiency. Stephen received his MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and his undergraduate Bachelor of Arts from Williams College.
